Betty's Obituary

A funeral Mass was con-celebrated Saturday, September 13, 1980, in Sacred Heart Church, Watertown, MA, for Elizabeth A. Pelletier, 75, retired head of the foreighn language department of the Brighton High School.

She was an Anis Road (Belmont, MA) resident, but died at Cambridge Nursing Home after a short illness. Born in Wichendon, MA, she was graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School. After completing high school, she moved on to Radcliffe where she graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1924. She then studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and later received a master's degree in education from Boston University.

She taught French at Dorchester High for Girls and was promoted to department head at Brighton High where she taught until 1972. She retired after serving the Boston School Departemnt for more than 40 years.

She was a past president of the Boston High School Teachers Club and was a volunteer worker for several years at Sancta Maria Hospital.

She leaves her stepmother, Gertrude A. Pelletier of Springfield (MA); seven sisters, Anne P. Gray of Worcester (MA), Marie A. Pelletier and Evelyn P. Luick of Belmont (MA), Colette Kmetz of New Jersey, Audree Vadnais of Springfield (MA), Jacqueline O'Neil and Marie Pelletier of Worcester (MA); and three brothers, Rev. Joseph A. Pelletier a.a. of Worcester (MA), George Pelletier of Springfield (MA), and Pierre Pelletier of Worcester (MA).

The Mass was celebrated by her brother, Rev. Joseph A. Pelletier a.a., assisted by Rev. Robert Fortin a.a., Rev. Alfred Berthiaume a.a., Rev. Louis Dion a.a., Rev. Richard Richards a.a., and Rev. Dennis Galagher of Worcester (MA).

The organist and soloist was her brother-in-law, Richard Vadnais, and the readers were her nephews, Mark Pelletier, Brian O'Neil, and Robert E. Gray. Serving the priests were nephews Richard Vadnais, Jr., Charles Vadnais and Pierre Pelletier.

Internment was at Calvary Cemetery in Winchendon (MA) where prayers were said by Rev. Pelletier. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Stanton Funeral Home of Watertown (MA).
